January
- January 20 – By a 4-2 vote, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors adopts the county executive secretary form of government. County purchasing agent Randolph M. Loughborough is named as the executive secretary.[1]
February
- February 27 – While returning from a fishing trip, farmers Fristoe A. Melton and Clarence C. Dailey find the severed head of 31-year-old Pearl W. Corens on the side of Seneca Road near Herndon.[2][3][4]
August
- August 1 – Dr. Ford Swetnam is appointed county medical examiner by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.[5]
- August 24 - 48-year-old Lloyd S. Norborg and PFC Edward L. Kaas are killed in a head-on collision on the Lee Highway south of Centreville when Norborg loses control of his car and crashes into the Army truck in which Private Kaas was riding.[6]
