- April 25 – 31-year-old Anne Holmes becomes the first open lesbian ordained in the ministry at the Emmaus United Church of Christ in Vienna.[1]
- April 28 – 27-year-old Stanley Weinstein is murdered during a robbery at an Exxon station in downtown Springfield.[2][3]
