Events that took place in Fairfax County in August, 1896:
- August 15 – The Chesapeake and Ohio train number 3, known as the 'Flying Fast Virginian" or "F. F. V", is derailed shortly after midnight by being diverted onto the spur near the Ravensworth Station in a failed robbery attempt. Following the crash, the foiled robbers shoot at the flagman, Muscoe, and flee.[1][2][3]
