August 22, 1947 Lenwood Fitzgerald Jumped from the back of a work truck returning to camp from a job. Recaptured August 25 at his home in Lynchburg, Virginia.[4][5]
August 25, 1947 Daley O. Childrey [5]
March 30, 1948 Floyd Turner Escaped from a work gang, then spent the night in the woods being rained on. Surrendered the following day by calling up the camp to come and fetch him near Fairfax Circle.[6]
January 18, 1949 Jonas Shirley [7][8]
April 6, 1949 Walter L. Jordan, Paul J. McKay [9]
July 5, 1949 James Prinkley, Wilson Fitzgerald Escaped while working on a construction project on Lee Highway four miles west of Fairfax.[10][11]
July 25, 1949 Emory Culberton Recaptured July 29, 1949 in Charles Town, West Virginia.[12]
June 16, 1950 John V. Measles,Carson T. Millis or C. P. Kennedy Measles recaptured July 18, 1950 in Washington, D.C.[13][14]Note:the two reports name a different second man as having escaped with and recaptured with John Measles.
July 6, 1950 Curtis D. Moore Surrendered at the FCPD's Groveton Substation shortly after escaping.[15]
January 7, 1951 Raymond Haag, Richard E. Norstrandt Recaptured with the hour by FCPD officers Joseph Sherwood and Anson Roberts as they attempted to hail a cab at Kamp Washington, less than a half mile from the camp.[16][17]
January 8, 1951 Eugene Hall, James M. Dodson Escaped from a road gang near Centreville by crawling through a culvert and fleeing into the underbrush.[18][19]
March 2, 1951 Homer Breeden, Hamilton Cofflin, John Williams Williams was shot during the escape attempt by Guard O. M. Wagner. The three men were captured an hour later by Fairfax county policemen Sergeant Stanley H. Dodson and Roland Heath.[20]
October 21, 1951 Chester Beasly, John J. Hope [21]
February 11, 1955 Ronald Haley, Charles Hilliard, Burton Laughters Haley, Hilliard and Laughters jumped from a prison truck on Lemon Road outside Falls Church after using a hacksaw to cut through the side of the truck. Haley and Hilliard were quickly captured on Great Falls Street, and Laughters was caught about a half hour later.[22]
September 19, 1955 Ross L. Lowery Shot by guard Stanley O. Moomaw when he tried to run off from a work detail in Vienna. Lowery was taken to the Alexandria Hospital with a buckshot wound in the back of his neck.[23]
September 20, 1972 Isaac Archer Fled from a road gang on Route 123 near Fairfax Station into a nearby subdivision.[24]
May 25, 1980 Rupert F. Pearson, Jr. Pearson, a convicted murderer, fled from an enclosed area and escaped despite a guard firing two shots at him. He was recaptured by the Virginia State Police the following day in Frederick County.[25][26]
