John E. Granfield
John E. Granfield was the Chief of the Fairfax County Police Department from 1985 to 1992.
Granfield joined the department in 1969 upon leaving the military.[1]
In January 1982, Lieutenant Granfield was promoted to Captain and took charge of the Groveton District Station.[2]
Granfield was promoted to lieutenant colonel on November 19, 1984, and became the FCPD's first deputy chief for operations.[3]
County Executive J. Hamilton Lambert named Granfield as acting chief on February 11, 1985, and assumed command on February 15.[1] His appointment was formalized on July 8.[4]
On May 12, 1992, Granfield announced his retirement from FCPD, effective June 26.[5]
Granfield took the job of police chief for the town of Sanford, Maine in 1996. In September 2002, Granfield became town administrator for Sanford.[6]
