- July 19 – 33-year-old Anthony J. Simpson is sentenced to 53 years in prison by Judge Jack B. Stevens for a violent spree that culminated with his stabbbing 32-year-old Fana Belay to death in front of her eight-year-old daughter in the Edsall Gardens Apartments in Alexandria early on the morning of September 27, 1995.[1]
