Events that took place in Fairfax County in June, 1888:
- June 16 – The Number 54 train on the Virginia Midland Railroad derails at Pope's Head Creek between the Fairfax and Clifton Stations, killing engineer Edward Hantzmon, fireman Lee Makely, telegraph operator Charles Mayo and baggage master John Poss. Hantzmon is taken from the wreck alive but dies of his injuries shortly thereafter. The mangled corpses of Makely and Mayo are discovered beneath the wrecked engine.[1][2][3][4]
