Michael J. Hughes, Jr. February 13, 1958 Guard beaten and fatally stabbed in the day room of Dormitory 13 by Gumersindo P. Gomez and John F. Schoppel.[1][2]
Roy D. Lewis December 12, 1971 Stabbed in the maximum security dining hall in retaliation for an earlier stabbing. Lewis was taken to the Lorton hospital, where he died an hour later.[3]
Joseph J. Brooks August 21, 1972 Stabbed in the chest in his dormitory, Brooks managed to stagger to the prison hospital and was taken to D.C. General Hospital, where he died about 4½ hours later.[4]
Douglas M. Boney May 22, 1980 Shot twice in the chest with a .38 caliber revolver by 32-year-old Edward Ford Sharrieff, who broke into Dormitory 16 with 24-year-old Germain P. Stoddard and 30-year-old John E. Landon.[5][6]
Keith Hunter June 13, 1983 Ambushed and fatally stabbed by several other prisoners in a television room in Cell block No. 6.[7]
Anthony Johnson December 6, 1984 Fatally burned in a methane gas explosion at Youth Center I. Johnson was taken to the Washington Hospital Center, where he died of his burns on December 24.[8][9]
Robert E. Darby February 22, 1987 Fatally stabbed outside the dining hall of Youth Center I.[10]
Antonio Bowers February 17, 1988 Fatally stabbed in a dormitory hallway at Youth Center I.[11]
Gordon Stewart August 8, 1990 Fatally stabbed in the shower of Youth Center I by Nathan Price.[12][13]
Johnny Tart January 18, 1992 Stabbed to death outside a dormitory at Youth Center I.[14][15]
