- May 10 – A fire at Springfield Estates Elementary School in Springfield burns three classrooms and leaves two others with smoke and water damage, estimated at $150,000.[1][2]
- May 16 – By a vote of 6-1, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approves plans for a one year landfill to accept trash from Arlington County and the District of Columbia on 22 acres in Lorton.[3][4]
