Michael S. Campbell
Michael S. "Mike" Campbell was the principal of Westfield High School from 2004 to 2006 and Centreville High School from 2006 to 2012.
Early life and education
Campbell was born and grew up in Rockbridge County, Virginia.[1]
After graduating from the high school where his father was also a principal, Campbell attended the University of Virginia, graduating in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education.[1] Campbell would later return to UVA and take his master's degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in 1993.[1]
Career
Campbell began his teaching career in the Albermarle County Public Schools system.[1] In 1983, Campbell joined the Fairfax County Public Schools system as a coach at Fairfax High School, where he would stay for the next ten years.[1][2]
In 1993, Campbell moved to George C. Marshall High School, moving to Centreville in 1996 as a subschool principal.[1][2]
Campbell transferred to Westfield to become an assistant principal in 1999.[1]
Following the departure of Principal Dale Rumberger to open South County High School, Campbell was named principal of Westfield High School on May 20, 2004.[1]
Principal Peter Noonan was promoted to assistant superintendent of Cluster VII schools in April 2006, and Campbell sought the job at Centreville high School, wanting to be principal of the school his sons would attend.[3]
Campbell decided to retire from FCPS in 2012, and was hired in February to become the principal of J.O. Johnson High School in Huntsville, Alabama.[2][4]
After a year at Johnson, Campbell was hired in 2013 by the Madison County school board to become the principal of Sparkman High School in Harvest, Alabama.[5]
Following a poorly-considered prank by 15-year-old Christian Adamek on September 27 where Ademek streaked across the field during a football game, Campbell revealed himself to be a high-order humorless dick when he had the boy arrested and later referred the boy to the local courts for criminal charges.[6]
Campbell compounded his dickery when gave an grandstanding interview to local television station WHNT on October 1 stressing the serious legal complications that faced the boy.[6] On October 2, Adamek hanged himself, making Campbell a discipulicide when he died two days later.[6]
Awards and Honors
Campbell was named First Year Principal of the Year in 2004.
