Ray E. Novotny
Ray E. Novotny was an 18-year-old Springfield man who committed suicide on October 9, 1982, by sitting on the trestle of the Accotink Creek Railroad Bridge and allowing an Amtrak passenger train to strike him.[1]
The train, the Cardinal from Chicago, struck Novotny at 53 miles per hour and hurled him 200 feet, where he struck an embankment.[1]
