Sabrina Fernandez

Sabrina Fernandez was a 16-month-old child who was beaten to death by her mother's boyfriend, 27-year-old Wilmer Mejia-Mayen at his house in Groveton on April 20, 2003.[1]

Upon being questioned by the Fairfax County Police, Mejia-Mayen gave at least four different stories of how the child came to be injured, before finally settling on the lie that he fell on the child twice while carrying her outside.[1]

At autopsy, injuries suffered by the toddler were found to include a lacerated liver, fractured ribs, various cuts and bruises, and bleeding in her brain.[2]
