The Spectrum at Reston Town Center

The Spectrum at Reston Town Center is a shopping center in Reston.

The shopping center was built and is owned by Lerner Enterprises.

Construction of the shopping center was opposed by a group of residents, including Reston founder Robert E. Simon, who argued that it was not in keeping with the original "new town" vision for Reston.[1][2] However, Lerner's research revealed that people wanted big box stores where they could buy lots of cheap shit, so that's exactly what they got when the Spectrum Center opened in 1995.

Following the closure of the Uptons chain, Harris Teeter purchased the former department store's location in June 2000.[3]

In July 2006, Lerner revealed a plan to redevelop the site that would add 1400 condos and nearly half a million square feet of office space, using the trendy "town center" model.[4]
