- December 29, 1972 – 27-year-old William H. Phillips is convicted of first-degree murder and abduction for the January 27 shotgun murder of pool hall manager Steve Staton in the Jack and Jill Cue Club in Falls Church.
- December 29, 1978 – 33-year-old John Jackson, a custodian at the Talent House Private School, is shot to death by Fairfax County Police officer David Lubas in the school building at 9211 Arlington Boulevard. Jackson had entered the private school to conduct a stakeout, unaware that Lubas and officer Nancy Lutz of the FCPD had already staked out the school. When Jackson saw Lubas, who was not in uniform, Jackson pointed his gun at Lubas, who then shot him three times.
- December 29, 1979 – Drunken 20-year-old U.S. Army Private Robert K. Yoshida, II and two of his equally drunken friends, Navy enlisted man Charles Lightener, Jr. and Bruce L. Irle, decide that the appropriate way to celebrate the holiday season is to set off ground burst artillery simulators at the homes of a few of their former high school friends. Yoshida and his buddies set off the flashlight-sized fireworks, which simulate both the whistle of an incoming artillery shell as well as its explosion upon landing, at 5117 Coleridge Drive and 5115 Holden Street in Fairfax and at 3447 Launcelot Way in Annandale.
- December 29, 1989 – While driving west on Braddock Road, 22-year-old Scott A. Carter loses control of his 1980 Saab and runs off the right side of the road near Prestwick Drive in Fairfax, striking a tree and killing himself.
- December 29, 1989 – While driving east on Braddock Road, 22-year-old Michael V. Pohlman loses control of his 1985 Mustang and runs off the left side of the road near Prestwick Drive in Fairfax, striking a tree and killing himself.
- December 29, 2006 – 70-year-old Otilla Arriaza is struck and mortally injured as she attempts to cross Baron Cameron Avenue at Bennington Woods Road in Reston as she walks to work. She is taken to the Inova Fairfax Hospital, but dies about two hours later.
