- January 14, 1879 – The town of Herndon is incorporated.
- January 14, 1967 – Former supervisors Robert C. Cotten, Jr. and A. Claiborne Leigh, along with Trailer Court Ventures partners Nathan Wechsler, Sigmund Goldblatt, and George and Seymour Faigen are convicted in Federal Court of bribery conspiracy involving the rezoning of 83 acres in Hybla Valley in 1961 for the Audubon Estates trailer park.
- January 14, 1985 – 52-year-old Brigadier General Bobby C. Robinson commits suicide in the garage of his home at 4906 Wycliff Lane in Fairfax by shooting himself.
- January 14, 1986 – 31-year-old Adalberto S. Irizarry fatally shoots 38-year-old Manuel DeJesus Rodriguez in the head in a wooded area off Furnace Road in Lorton.
- January 14, 2007 – 21-year-old Juan Antonio Melendez unintentionally kills himself when he loses control of the 1996 Ford Explorer he is driving and hits a tree in Springfield.
- January 14, 2007 – 49-year-old Phyllis Lowery lies down in the path of a Fairfax Connector bus on Richmond Highway in Alexandria and is run over and killed.
