- January 9, 1954 – 34-year-old Walter S. Clark uses a borrowed shotgun to kill 25-year-old Lorraine E. Schultz and her mother, 46-year-old Edna B. Brown, at their home on Old Telegraph Road in Alexandria before he himself is shot to death by several policemen who track him to an abandoned chicken coop nearby. Clark also wounds 31-year-old Herman J. Schultz, 23-year-old William N. Brown, Jr., and Fairfax County Police Detective Dennis R. O'Neil in his spree.
- January 9, 1994 – 57-year-old Charlotte Young is found murdered in her apartment in the Hybla Valley area of Alexandria.
- January 9, 2007 – 56-year-old Martha Majors, who was being held for the murder of her niece, 22-year-old Laquetta S. Sanders, dies in her cell at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
- January 9, 2007 – 26-year-old Martin Klapproth commits suicide by jumping from the third floor of the Johnson Center on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax.
