- May 6, 1993 – 2-year-old Bladimir Ventura drowns in Lake Barton in Burke while playing with his 3-year-old sister. The child is pulled out of the water by a passerby, but dies of his injuries at Fairfax Hospital on May 9.
- May 6, 2008 – A magnitude 1.8 earthquake occurs in Annandale.
- May 6, 2011 – The Wachovia Bank at 1311 Dolley Madison Boulevard in McLean is robbed.
- May 6, 2014 – 72-year-old South Carolina woman Mary J. Treacy is mortally injured in a three-vehicle crash on I-495 in Springfield. Treacy is taken to the Inova Fairfax Hospital, where she dies.
