- October 3, 1955 – In a 6-1 vote, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors votes to delay the planned $950,000 purchase of the Annandale Water Company until November 18.
- October 3, 1964 – The severely decomposed corpse of 38-year-old Jack R. Smith, who disappeared while on a shopping trip on June 25, is found by hunter Joseph G. Hale in a wooded area off Rugby Road in Fairfax.
- October 3, 1971 – Vandals deliberately set two fires in the library and one of the learning centers at Fort Hunt Elementary School in Alexandria that cause nearly $500,000 worth of damage.
