January
- January 13 - Workmen discover the body of 41-year-old Robert Coffey hanging from a tree near the Accotink Creek in the area of Camp Humphreys. Coffey's death is ruled a suicide by the local magistrate.[1]
October
- October 15 – William H. Oehlert shoots and mortally wounds 33-year-old Henry E. Briscoe following an altercation in Alexandria. Briscoe is taken to Alexandria Hospital, where he dies the next day.[2]
November
- November 4 – 21-year-old Curtis Trice is shot and mortally wounded on a hunting trip near Occoquan. Trice is taken to the Alexandria Hospital, where he dies on November 7.[3][4]
- November 18 – William H. Oehlert apparently escapes from the Fairfax County Jail.[5]
December
- December 2 – Following a 35-minute deliberation by the jury, William H. Oehlert is convicted of the first-degree murder of Henry Briscoe in Alexandria on October 15 and is sentenced by Judge Samuel G. Brent to 20 years in prison.[6][7]
