July
- July 6 – The Fairfax County Planning Commission is created. The initial members of the commission, appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, are James T. Baldwin, Malcolm W. Matheson, Jr., E. R. White, Elizabeth H. Chilcott, and Edward W. Talbott.[1]
- July 18 – The Fairfax County Planning Commission holds their first meeting in the old Fairfax Court House. E. R. White is elected Chairman of the commission.[1]
August
- August 15 – The Mount Vernon Open Air Theater drive-in off of Route 1 opens in Alexandria.[2]
November
- November 5 – 69-year-old Mary Thompson is struck and killed in Pender by J. R. Allison when he loses control of his car and skids, striking Thompson and dragging her 75 feet into a fence.[3]
