- February 25 – The town of Falls Church files notice of its intention to annex 2100 acres of Fairfax County in the Circuit Court.[1]
September
- September 4 – The Fairfax Circuit Court denies Commonwealth's Attorney Paul E. Brown's motion to dismiss the Town of Falls Church's suit seeking to annex 2100 acres of the county.[2]
October
- October 30 – While digging in a gravel pit in Alexandria, 20-year-old Seaman Second Class Donald L. Tennyson is crushed to death by a falling 1½ ton rock and the resultant slide buries Seaman Second Class Edward A. Brooks, fatally suffocating him.[3]
