- August 29 – 20-year-old Lucy Grove attacks and beats 66-year-old Justice of the Peace August Henning about the head with a dog whip at the Vienna post office, where he had been lured by a false message of a telephone call. Grove was angry at Henning for dismissing her complaint against Eugene Hall, who she claimed had assaulted her the previous July.[1][2]
