- August 25 – 26-year-old Leon L. Cornell is fatally injured by Kenneth Poole when Poole, racing with Marshall Frinks along Franconia Road in Alexandria, loses control of his car and crashes into a telephone pole. Cornell is taken to Alexandria Hospital, where he dies on the morning of August 28.[1][2]
