Events that took place in Fairfax County in August, 1948:
- August 4 – Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge Paul E. Brown issues an order declaring that the town of Falls Church will become a second-class city on August 16.[1]
- August 12 – 3-year-old Kay Sowers is burned and mortally injured in a fire on her parents' farm in Herndon. The injured child is taken to Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C., where she dies the following evening.[2]
- August 16 – Falls Church becomes a second-class city.[1]
