- August 25 – 42-year-old Air Force Sergeant Victor A. Tatum fatally shoots his ex-wife Rebecca's new boyfriend, 37-year-old Raymond D. Burke, then shoots himself in the head at her apartment in the Ravenwood Towers at 221 Leesburg Pike in Falls Church. Tatum had hidden in a closet and ambushed the pair with a .38 caliber pistol when they went into her bedroom after a date. Tatum is taken to Fairfax Hospital, where he dies on August 30.[1][2][3]
