Events that took place in Fairfax County in January, 1948:
- February 3 – Fairfax County Police Lieutenant Henry T. Magarity is promoted to the newly-created rank of inspector, while Detective Sergeant Grafton L. Wells is promoted to lieutenant and given command of the department's detective bureau.[1]
- February 27 – 65-year-old J. C. Bare is killed and 48-year-old Clate H. Baldwin is fatally injured by a pickup truck driven by 34-year-old Cecil I. Davy as he walks along Route 211 west of Fairfax. Davy is arrested the following day at the farm near Centreville where he works by Fairfax County Police Sergeant Richard F. Utz and Private Julian Burke and taken to the Fairfax Jail. Baldwin dies in the Arlington Hospital late on March 1.[2][3]
