Franklin Sherman Elementary School is a public elementary school in McLean.
The current school was built in 1952, replacing a school originally built in 1914 as the McLean School, but renamed Franklin Sherman following the death of prominent resident Franklin Sherman in 1915.
On April 12, 1971, a student started a fire in the school that caused $175,000 worth of damage.[1]
By 1971, the school was falling apart due to years of deferred maintenance. Principal Irene Lober's first day at the school was marked by a backup in the school's sewage system that caused all the bathrooms to flood.[2]
