George E. Kranda

George E. Kranda was Chief of the Herndon Police Department from 1988 to 1999.

Kranda joined the Fairfax County Police Department in 1968.[1]

In October 1984, Kranda was promoted to captain in anticipation of his taking command of the McLean District Station.[1]

In November 1988, Captain Kranda was still serving as commander of the McLean station when, following the firing of Chief George W. Winkel, Kranda was appointed acting chief of the Herndon Police Department.[2] Promoted to major, Kranda did not leave the Fairfax County Police Department, and continued to wear his FCPD uniform, although his salary was paid by the town. [2]

While under Kranda's command, the HPD added both a motorcycle squad and bicycle patrol to its existing complement of squad cars.[3]
