John V. Berberich, III

John Valentine Berberich, III (October 14, 1928 – February 13, 2017) was the first person appointed as a Deputy Fairfax County Executive, serving from 1966 to 1972.

Early life and education

Berberich was the son of John V. Berberich, Jr. and Jane S. Berberich.[1] Berberich graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1950.

Career

Previously working as the city engineer for Fredericksburg and later as the city manager for Lexington, the 37-year-old Berberich was appointed to the newly-created position on April 20, 1966.[2]

Citing his declining relationship with County Executive George J. Kelley, Jr., Berberich resigned on March 17, 1972.[3]

Personal

Berberich married the former Gloria C. Kennedy in 1951, and the couple would go on to have four children together.[4]
