- May 5 – 17-year-old John Costanzo pleads guilty to first-degree murder for shooting 46-year-old motel owner Herbert C. Hunter during a botched robbery at his motel in Springfield on January 7.[1]
- May 22 – The Reston District substation of the Fairfax County Police Department opens in a rented space in a business park in Reston.[2]
