Events that took place in Fairfax County in May, 1980:
- May 8 – 25-year-old John W. Tucker fatally injures 27-year-old Craig Anteroinen when he punches Anterionen in the side of the head in the parking lot of the Fairfax City Denny's for squealing on Redskins defensive end Coy Bacon, who had been arrested for being drunk at the nearby P. J. Skiddoos minutes before. Anteroinen is taken to Fairfax Hospital, where he dies later that day.[1][2]
- May 9 – 27-year-old Douglas J. Kolb fatally shoots 22-year-old Robert F. Plowden during a botched robbery in Falls Church. Kolb dumps Plowden's corpse in a wooded area at the end of Evans Court, near the Idylwood Plaza shopping center.[3][4]
- May 23 – A group of men break into the minimum security Dormitory 16 at the Lorton Reformatory and fatally shoot 35-year-old prisoner Douglas M. Boney.[5][6] An intense police search follows, resulting in the arrests of 32-year-old Edward F. Sharrieff, 24-year-old Germain P. Stoddard, and 30-year-old John E. Landon.[5]
