Events that took place in Fairfax County in October, 1988:
- October 1 – 42-year-old Vernon Fogg is killed when the bed of the dump truck he is driving rises and strikes the Backlick Road overpass on Interstate 95 in Lorton, causing the truck to overturn.[1]
- October 14 – Judge Thomas J. Middleton sentences 49-year-old Kyong Sung Kil to three years in prison and a $5000 fine for killing 23-year-old Steven T. Souther, 20-year-old Robert Sterzel, and 20-year-old Larry Ruscio in a hit-and-run crash in McLean on March 3.[2]
- October 18 – 41-year-old John E. Dunbar is found bound and shot to death in the parking lot of the Difficult Run Stream Valley Park in McLean.[3]
- October 25 – While searching for murder suspect Ramon A. Bido, Fairfax County Police officers shoot and mortally wound 28-year-old Maria Teresa De la Cruz and injure her 50-year-old husband Inocencio when Inocencio brandishes a handgun at the officers after they break down the door of the couple's basement bedroom in Annandale.[4] Both victims are taken to the Fairfax Hospital, where Maria dies early the next morning.[4]
