Ronald C. Harley

Ronald C. Harley (October 26, 1945 – April 12, 1957) was an 11-year-old boy from Lorton who was struck in the head with a bat and fatally injured by 14-year-old Roger L. Jacobs during a softball game in his physical education class at Woodley Hills Elementary School in Alexandria on April 12, 1957.[1][2][3]

After being struck by the older boy, Harley exclaimed, "I'm hurt," before collapsing and dying in the arms of his teacher, Roma Burke.[2]

The boy was taken to Alexandria Hospital by the Mount Vernon Rescue Squad, where he was pronounced dead.[2]

Following a preliminary autopsy, Alexandria Medical Examiner John A. Sims ruled that Harley died of a cerebral hemorrhage, but further tests proved he had in fact been struck in the head by Jacobs.[2][3]
