- September 8 – The nude, beaten corpse of 37-year-old Eige Sober-Adler is discovered near the construction site of a Days Inn at 2200 Centreville Road in Herndon.[1][2]
- September 29 – Roger W. Whitney is paroled after serving 16 years of a double-life sentence for the July, 1971 murders of Lieutenant Commander William F. Rolland, Sr. and his 19-year-old son Bud.[3]
