Events that took place in Fairfax County in August, 1987:
- August 3 – The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors votes 8-1 to accept a scheme to build the Fairfax County Government Center, with only Supervisor Audrey Moore dissenting.[1]
- August 7 – Fairfax County Police Officer Gary Riccio is fired from the department for making obscene telephone calls.[2]
- August 24 – 17-year-old Derek C. Forbes is shot and mortally wounded by 18-year-old Brian D. Loving in Loving's house at 14483 Golden Oak Road in Centreville. Forbes is flown to Fairfax Hospital, where he dies early the next morning.[3]
