The Birchmere
The Birchmere is a concert hall and performance venue in the City of Alexandria.
The venue originally opened in 1965 in a shopping center in Arlington.
In 1974, owner Gary H. Oelze decided to start featuring bluegrass acts, which led to the club gaining an international reputation.[1]
In 1981, the club moved to the Arlandria neighborhood of the City of Alexandria.[2]
The club moved again in June 1997 to a 55,000 square foot former warehouse near its former location.[3]
