William N. Ennis, Jr.
William N. "Billy" Ennis, Jr. (January 13, 1939 – August 21, 1958) was an Alexandria youth who was severely injured on December 1, 1956, when 19-year-old Walter E. Critchfield lost control of the car he was driving and crashed on Telegraph Road near S. Kings Highway.[1][2]
Both Ennis and Critchfield were thrown from the car and lay in the snow for four hours before they were discovered. Ennis had suffered a brain injury in the wreck and lapsed into a coma.[2]
After months at the Alexandria Hospital, Ennis was moved to the Fort Ward Convalescent Home in January 1958.[2]
After 21 months in a coma, Ennis died on August 21, 1958.
