March
- March 11 – Alexandria Corporation Court Judge Louis C. Barley, Sr. is temporarily commissioned by Governor Claude A. Swanson to sit on the bench of the 16th Circuit Court to replace the retired Judge Charles E. Nicol.[1]
August
- August 17 – Judge Louis C. Barley, Sr. resigns as judge of the 16th Circuit, which includes the City of Alexandria as well as Alexandria, Fairfax and Prince William counties. It is speculated that Judge Barley's resignation was prompted by overwork, as he had retained his seat as Judge of the Alexandria Corporation Court in addition to his duties on the Circuit Court.[2]
