- March 22 – A major fire sweeps through downtown Herndon, destroying 16 businesses and 2 homes.[2][3]

- July 29 - Two-year-old Vernon Gitson dies when he is struck by a train as he crosses the railroad tracks near Edsall Station in Alexandria.[4][1]
October
- October 30 – 17-year-old track hand Clarence Gorham is killed by a train on the Washington-Southern Railroad in Franconia.[5][1]
