April
- April 4 – 26-year-old Clara Grove unintentionally kills her passenger, 31-year-old Richard J. Hayden, when she drives off a bridge on the road from Accotink to Accotink Station and into a creek, where it overturns. Hayden shoves Grove out of the window of the car, but is unable to save himself and drowns.[1]
May
- May 1 – Fairfax County Policemen Carl R. McIntosh and Louis L. Finks are arrested and charged with mayhem in Arlington for shooting unarmed criminal suspect Leroy Holsinger.[2]
October
- October 5 – 28-year-old well digger Melvin Stevens is unintentionally shot to death near his home in Vienna while searching for the assailant that had been firing shots at his house and that of a neighbor.[3][4][5]
