September
- September 6 – The era of the one-room schoolhouse comes to an end in Fairfax County when the school board adopts a resolution to close the Sydenstricker School in Springfield, moving its students to the Burke School.[1]
October
- October 23 – A fire at their Franconia home kills 40-year-old Nellie Wise and her daughters, 19-year-old Beatrice and 12-year-old Frances. Fortunately, 43-year-old Philip J. Wise had had the forethought to insure the lives of his wife and daughters for a total of $1300 before the tragedy.[2][3]
