Events that took place in Fairfax County in July, 1987:
- July 6 – 41-year-old Richard L. Whitley rides the lightning for the July 25, 1980 murder of Phoebe Parsons in her home in the Pimmit Hills neighborhood of Falls Church.[1]
- July 9 – 32-year-old Larry L. Gill is found guilty of second-degree murder for shooting Virginia State Trooper Alexander M. Cochran, III and Army Sergeant Dennis R. Kief in Lorton on January 15.[2]
- July 12 – 10-year-old Bouloy Khambay drowns in the Holmes Run in Annandale.[3]
- July 25 – 17-year-old Michelle Turner is fatally injured in Reston when the car she is riding in flips on Fox Mill Road near Pinecrest Road. Turner is taken to Fairfax Hospital, where she dies of massive head injuries.[4]
- July 25 – 17-year-old Peter Lisenby unintentionally kills himself when he loses control of his 1978 Volkswagen and crashes into a tree on Old Courthouse Road near Creek Crossing Road in Vienna. Lisenby is taken to Fairfax Hospital, where he dies.[4][5]
