- August 20 – Fairfax Circuit Court Judge Dennis J. Smith sentences Maria De Las Mercedes Tizon to 14 years in prison for murdering her 34-year-old boyfriend Ahmed Chouaib in her Centreville apartment on August 15, 2009.[1]
- August 24 – 17-year-old Gregory J. Malsam is electrocuted in Fairfax when a branch from the tree he is trimming strikes a high-voltage power line.[2][3]
