January
- January 1 – 31-year-old Joseph A. Taylor dies in a single-car crash in Herndon.[1]
- January 3 – 22-year-old Steven M. Kowalik drunkenly kills his friend, 21-year-old Joshua S. Buker, when he loses control of the 1991 Dodge he is driving and crashes into a utility pole and a tree on Fleet Drive near Yadkin Court in Alexandria. Buker is ejected from the vehicle and dies at the scene.[2]
- January 19 – After attempting to rob a 20-year-old man in the Rose Hill section of Alexandria, 19-year-old Kyle Pforr dies of stab wounds at the Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.[3][4]
- January 23 – Marysusan Giguere is found guilty of voluntary manslaughter for shooting her 60-year-old husband Ronald K. Giguere in the forehead with a .38 caliber revolver as he cowered in the corner of the upstairs bathroom of the couple's home at 1438 Crowell Road in Vienna on March 3, 2008.[5][6]
February
- February 16 - 58-year-old Margaret A. Teague is shot to death during an argument with her husband, Donald E. Teague, Jr., at the family home at 7209 Laketree Drive in Fairfax Station.[7]
March
- March 13 – Judge David S. Schell is formally invested as a judge on the Fairfax Circuit Court.[8]
April
- April 2 – After killing his 55-year-old wife Chi-Lin Chen, 55-year-old Ho Bih Chen commits suicide by setting fire to his home at 12115 Eddyspark Drive in Herndon.[9][10][11]
- April 12 – 17-year-old Lee T. Wiggins fatally strangles and stabs Siobhan L. Russell in his house at 12721 Magna Carta Road in Herndon.[12][13][14]
- April 17 – 53-year-old Marysusan Giguere is sentenced to eight years in prison for voluntary manslaughter for shooting her husband Ronald to death in the bathroom of their Vienna home on March 3, 2008.[15]
- April 22 – 41-year old Freddie Mac Chief Financial Officer David B. Kellerman hangs himself from a piece of exercise equipment in the basement of his home at 1709 Raleigh Hill Road in the Hunter Mill Estates neighborhood of Vienna.[16]
June
- June 10 – 54-year-old homeless man William J. Bowie is shot and killed in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Alexandria by 18-year-old Tyree D. Harvey.[17][18]
- June 20 – The Fairfax County Park Authority dedicates Merrifield Park, the first "urban park" in the system.[19]
- June 30 – 23-year-old Powell Beck is shot to death in the home at 5422 Crossrail Drive in Burke.[20]
July
- July 21 – 38-year-old Dail W. Brown, Jr. is convicted of first-degree murder for shooting his father to death in the basement of the family home at 2108 Carrhill Road in Vienna on September 27, 2006.[21]
- July 24 – In an attempt to get her to divulge the combination of a safe containing $140,000 in her home at 4119 Hummer Road in Annandale, 53-year-old acupuncturist Chung A. Auh is tortured and murdered by 47-year-old Danny Kim and his brother.[22][23]
August
- August 15 – 92-year-old Howard Simmons is struck and mortally injured by a 1996 Toyota Camry as he attempts to cross Center Road near Glen Oaks Court in Springfield. Simmons is taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he dies early the next morning.[24]
- August 15 – 34-year-old Ahmed Chouaib is shot to death by his girlfriend, 64-year-old Maria De Las Mercedes Tizon, in her apartment at 14325 Climbing Rose Way, No. 105, in the Centre Ridge neighborhood of Centreville.[25][26]
September
- September 22 – Stay-at-home father Herbert M. Price, Jr. fatally injures his 9-month-old son Dylan at his home in Burke when he shakes the baby.[27][28]
October
- October 5 – 44-year-old James Griffith is struck and killed by a 1996 Toyota Corolla as he attempts to cross Richmond Highway at Backlick Road in Fort Belvoir. Griffith is taken to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital, where he is pronounced dead.[29]
- October 23 – The former Edsall Park Elementary School in Springfield is dedicated as Plum Center for Lifelong Learning to honor Delegate Kenneth R. Plum.[30]
- October 23 – Ronald L. Robertson shoots Karen S. Deck in the head while attempting to unload a 9 mm pistol she had discovered in his closet. Robertson calls his mother and his friends, telling them he has accidentally shot his girlfriend, but is disbelieved. He does not call the police or the rescue squad. He calls his mother again the next day, and she notifies police, who discover Deck's corpse in Robertson's apartment.[31][32]
November
- November 13 – Unarmed criminal suspect David A. Masters is shot and killed by Fairfax County Police Officer David Scott Ziants during a traffic stop on Route 1 in the Huntington area of Alexandria.[33].
- November 14 – The Sally Ormsby Park in Fairfax is dedicated.
- November 20 – 71-year-old Emma A. Cabrera is killed when her 2005 Honda Pilot rolls over her outside of her home at 8815 Charles Hawkins Way in Annandale.[34]
December
- December 11 - Minghua Zheng is strangled to death by her husband, Jaime A. Kuhne, in her apartment at 718 Tamarack Drive, #C, in Herndon.[35]
- December 28 - 25-year-old Victoria Stefan unintentionally kills herself and her 22-year-old sister, Elizabeth, when she crashes the 2003 Jaguar she is driving into a concrete Jersey barrier while attempting to turn onto Route 29 from West Ox Road.[36][37]
- December 31 - Claudia Nova, a 21-year-old Falls Church woman, is stabbed to death by her boyfriend, 29-year-old Selbin Marroquin, at their shared apartment at 6077 Argyle Drive #12.[38]
