- December 9 – Circuit Court Judge Paul E. Brown appoints Robert C. Fitzgerald as Commonwealth's Attorney, effective January 1, to replace Hugh B. Marsh.[1]
- December 9 – 32-year-old Nellie F. Otten is killed and 14-year-old Janet Coble is mortally injured in a two-car collision at the intersections of Routes 236, 50 and 211 in Fairfax. Coble is taken to the Arlington Hospital, where she dies on December 11.[2][3]
