Garfield Memorial Christian Church
Garfield Memorial Christian Church is in McLean.
The church was established as a mission of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1955, and heard services by the Reverend Frank Buechley in the Pimmit Hills Elementary School.
In 1957, the church purchased a 4-acre site from J. Preston Rogers.[1] On April 28 of that year, the church achieved full church status.[2]
The Reverend Franklin L. Hall became pastor of the church in 1959.[3]
On August 28, 1960, Reverend Hall led the groundbreaking ceremony for the church's first building, designed by architect Elmer Cappelman and constructed by Burroughs and Preston.[4] Constructed at a cost of $83,000, the new church was dedicated on October 8, 1961.[3]
