- January 4 - 5-day-old Crissmis N. R. Jones is shaken to death by her drunken 38-year-old grandmother, Heather T. Thomas, in Thomas' apartment at at 14822 Millicent Court in the London Towne neighborhood of Centreville.[1][2][3]
- January 24 - 37-year-old optometrist Salvatore J. Culosi is fatally shot at his Fair Oaks townhouse by Fairfax County Police SWAT Team Member Master Police Officer Deval V. Bullock.[4]
