- January 4 - 5-day-old Crissmis N. R. Jones is shaken to death by her drunken 38-year-old grandmother, Heather T. Thomas, in Thomas' apartment at at 14822 Millicent Court in the London Towne neighborhood of Centreville.[1][2][3]
- January 24 - 37-year-old optometrist Salvatore J. Culosi is fatally shot at his Fair Oaks townhouse by Fairfax County Police SWAT Team Member Master Police Officer Deval V. Bullock.[4]
February
- February 6 – Fairfax County agrees to purchase the Crescent Apartments in Reston from the Mark Winkler Company for $49.5 million, preserving the complex as affordable housing for county residents.[5]
- February 22 – 2-year-old Jada C. Leiva-Hernandez drowns in a swimming pool in the Lake Barcroft neighborhood of Falls Church.[6]
March
- March 3 – Wilbert T. Abney is convicted of the murder of his wife, Mona L. Abney in January 1978.[7]
- March 8 – Edward O'Connor and his wife Alice, both 81 years old, die in a fire at 6536 Renwood Lane in Annandale.[8]
- March 11 – 24-year-old Jamel D. Rush is convicted of second-degree murder for fatally stabbing 30-year-old Christian A. Green in Lorton on August 4, 2005.[9]
- March 14 – 40-year-old Fidel Angel Coreas is convicted of first-degree murder for the July 17, 2000 shooting death of his 36-year-old girlfriend Mariza Segovia in her apartment at 7610 Savannah Street in the Falls Church Gardens Apartments in Falls Church.[10]
April
- April 2 – 89-year-old Miriam Ruemele dies in a kitchen fire in her condomium at 7444 Spring Village Drive in Greenspring Village in Springfield.[11]
- April 5 – 76-year-old Anastasia Spiliotopoulos is struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Lee Highway near the intersection of Mainstone Drive in Fairfax.[12][13]
- April 8 – The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Oakton Library is held in Oakton.[14]
- April 26 – As part of a quid pro quo for an additional $150 million in funding, the Fairfax County School Board votes to turn over a dozen unneeded properties totaling 189 acres to Fairfax County.[15]
May
- May 5 – The Fairfax County Water Authority's Frederick P. Griffith, Jr., Water Treatment Plant is placed in service.[16]
- May 8 – 18-year-old Michael W. Kennedy goes on a shooting rampage at the Sully District Police Station, killing Fairfax County Police detective Vicky O. Armel and mortally wounding officer Michael E. Garbarino before he himself is fatally shot by officers Mark Dale and Jeffrey Andrea.[17][18]
- May 12 – 57-year-old Pamela A. Jones is stabbed to death by her 24-year-old son, Nathan P. Jones, in the family home at 3232 Sherman Street in the Mosby Woods neighborhood of Fairfax.[19]
- May 17 – Fairfax County Police officer Michael E. Garbarino dies at the Fairfax Hospital of injuries received in the May 8 shooting rampage of Michael W. Kennedy.[20]
- May 24 – 24-year-old Donald L. Caison, Jr. settles a disagreement with 34-year-old William Green by stabbing him to death outside the home of a female acquaintance at 1103 Clarke Street in Herndon.[21][22]
June
- June 9 – Henh Chu Ngo is sentenced to 26 years in prison by Judge Jane Marum Roush for the December, 2002 murder of Ngoc Quy Doan Nguyen in Annandale.[23]
- June 11 – 46-year-old cab driver Parvez Ahmed is robbed and murdered in Falls Church by Ahmed I. Osman.[24][25]
- June 12 – Anthony L. Burdis pleads guilty to first-degree murder for shooting John M. Shirley in his girlfriend's Fairfax condominium on November 3, 2005.[26]
- June 16 – Judge Randy I. Bellows sentences Jamel D. Rush to 28 years in prison for fatally stabbing 30-year-old Christian A. Green in Lorton on the night of August 4, 2005.[27][28]
- June 29 – A groundbreaking ceremony is held at the site of the new Burke Centre Library.[29]
July
- July 13 – 45-year-old William H. Lash, III fatally shoots his autistic son, 12-year-old William H. Lash, IV, then commits suicide at his home at 1433 Pathfinder Lane in McLean.[30][31]
- July 16 – The Dauphine Steak House in Springfield closes.[32][33]
- July 27 – Tim Thomas is named as principal of Westfield High School to replace the departing Mike Campbell.[34]
August
- August 7 – 23-year-old Marine Corporal Travis J. Kaemmerer unintentionally kills himself when he crashes his 2000 Ford Mustang into the back of a stopped truck on Interstate 95 in Lorton at approximately 80 miles per hour.[35]
- August 17 – 50-year-old Samuel K. Hamlett is convicted of first-degree murder for fatally stabbing 41-year-old Lynda A. Meagher in his ex-wife's Mount Vernon apartment on November 10, 2005.[36]
September
- September 8 – Fairfax Circuit Court Judge Marcus D. Williams sentences Rody J. Phillips to five years in juvenile prison for fatally stabbing 60-year-old clerk Sun Ku Kwon in the 7-Eleven at 5638 Mount Vernon Highway in Mount Vernon on December 6, 2004.[37]
- September 11 – Jayant Kadian pleads guilty to second-degree murder for stabbing his mother Kiran 23 times in the kitchen of the family home at 10005 Thompson Ridge Court in Great Falls on March 24, 2005.[38][39]
- September 12 – 21-month-old Myles A. Simon is beaten to death in the rented Alexandria townhome of his daycare provider, Jillian Ahmad, by her husband Mohammad while Jillian is on a shopping excursion for narcotics.[40][41]
- September 22 – Leslie E. Carver is sentenced to 40 years in prison for the 1994 murder of Marvin B. Greenwell by Circuit Court Judge Randy I. Bellows.[42]
- September 27 – 64-year-old Vienna man Dail W. Brown, Sr. is shot to death in the basement of his home by his son, Dail Jr., who then dismembers his father's corpse and places it in the trunk of the senior Brown's car.[43][44]
October
- October 2 – 35-year-old Su Quoc Vo is beaten and stabbed to death in his home at 3274 Annandale Road in Falls Church by Anh Tuan Nguyen.[45][46]
- October 2 – 50-year-old Jose Maria Carranza Claros is struck and killed at the intersection of Arlington Boulevard and Annandale Road in Falls Church by an off-duty Fairfax County Police officer.[45]
- October 6 – Judge Stanley P. Klein sentences 32-year-old Pablo A. Cruz to 10 years in prison for killing 18-year-old Jonathan T. Bentley in a drunk driving crash in Falls Church on November 24, 2005.[47]
November
- November 13 – 45-year-old Monica O. Telfer is shot to death by her husband, 54-year-old Samuel Appiah-Kusi, who then commits suicide at their house at 6624 Sky Blue Court in Kingstowne.[48]
- November 16 – 39-year-old Anthony L. Burdis is sentenced to life in prison plus 23 years by Judge M. Langhorne Keith for the November 3, 2005 attack that killed 53-year-old John M. Shirley and seriously wounded Mallori Scott in her condominium at 12731 Fair Crest Court in Fairfax.[49]
- November 20 – 72-year-old Marion J. Newman is beaten and smothered to death in her home at 7102 Reservoir Road in Springfield.[50]
- November 24 – 52-year-old teacher Julie M. Adams is stabbed to death in her home at 8356 Glastonbury Court in Annandale by 43-year-old Donald R. Coffield.[51][52]
December
- December 1 – 47-year-old Dana E. Moro is sentenced to 33 years in prison by Judge David T. Stitt for the August 29, 2005 murder of Eric N. Miller.[53]
- December 10 – Following a failed business negotiation, 24-year-old Orator W. Hall is shot and mortally wounded in Burke by 19-year-old independent salesman Charles Caprino. A friend drives Hall to the Glory Days Grill in the Burke Town Plaza on Old Keene Mill Road, where his body is found in the parking lot.[54]
- December 11 – 22-year-old Laquetta S. Sanders is stabbed to death by her aunt, 56-year-old Martha Majors, in her apartment at the Edsall Garden Apartments at 6416 Edsall Road in Alexandria.[54][55]
- December 11 – 45-year-old David R. Feliz is stabbed to death in the laundry room of an apartment building in the 6000 block of Bellview Drive in the Culmore section of Falls Church.[54][56][57]
- December 13 – The Fairfax County Park Authority Board votes to change the name of Greenway Downs Park to John Mastenbrook-Greenway Downs Park.[58]
- December 29 – 70-year-old Otilla Arriaza is struck and mortally injured as she attempts to cross Baron Cameron Avenue at Bennington Woods Road in Reston as she walks to work. She is taken to the Inova Fairfax Hospital, but dies about two hours later.[59][60]
