- July 8 – Acting Chief John E. Granfield is formally appointed to head the Fairfax County Police Department.[1]
- July 17 – Following an unsuccessful business negotiation, 28-year-old Emery C. Buckman is shot to death on the front lawn of his unlicensed boarding house at 2840 Bisvey Drive in Falls Church by 26-year-old independent recreational pharmaceutical salesman Michael R. White.[2][3]
