Lake Anne (Lake)
Lake Anne is a man-made lake in Reston, created in 1963 by damming the Colvin Run.
Incidents
- On January 8, 1968, 2½-year-old Allegra Shuldiner fell through the ice covering the frozen lake and drowned. Two days later, on January 10, 30-year-old firefighter Earl W. Kane drowned when he suffered a hemorrhage and became trapped under the ice while diving to search for Allegra's corpse.[1] Allegra's corpse was finally recovered on February 3.[2]
- On July 4, 1972, 16-year-old Roger L. Scott drowned in the lake when he jumped in to retrieve a lost boat oar.[3]
- On August 10, 1975, 30-year-old Maxwell G. Courtney drowned while swimming in the lake.[4]
- Early on the morning of August 3, 1980, 18-year-old Timothy J. Koteff drowned in the lake when he waded out too far.[5][6]
